# Rekor Scout Overview

[Rekor Scout®](https://www.rekor.ai/software/scout) runs on your hardware/application and enables automatic license plate recognition from any IP camera. You don’t need to spend an excessive amount of money or use complicated and costly video management software. The software can be used for general surveillance or as an engine to add LPR capabilities to other applications.

The [Scout Agent](https://docs.rekor.ai/scout/agent) recognizes license plates and the [Scout Web Server](https://docs.rekor.ai/scout/web-server) (either cloud or self-hosted) displays searchable results. The [Application Integration](https://docs.rekor.ai/scout/application-integration) section discusses other options for retrieving results from the Agent.
