# Overview

Rekor Scout® enables accurate license plate and vehicle recognition on nearly any IP, traffic, or security camera. Detection results are displayed within a web-based interface hosted in the cloud or on-premise. Installation is quick and easy, making it the perfect security enhancement for government agencies, law enforcement, businesses of all sizes, and even homeowners.

Built using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) with 6+ years of machine learning (ML), Rekor Scout provides a vehicle’s license plate number, make, model, color, and direction of travel in a single, searchable dashboard.

To access the dashboard and interact with the data & tools, the user must either be on a trial or have an active subscription to one of our [Rekor Scout](https://www.rekor.ai/software/scout#plans)[® plans](https://www.rekor.ai/software/scout#plans).

{% hint style="info" %}
Rekor Scout Agents, both Cloud and On-Premises, must have a valid license to push data to the cloud.
{% endhint %}

This section will cover the features and capabilities provided by this management and monitoring tool.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.rekor.ai/scout/scout-dashboard/overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
